Laboratory tests conclude:

Water is the body’s nutrition number one. It is therefore important that the water quality is as good as possible. Most waterworks add chlorine to the tap water in order to remove bacteria. However, chlorine may have negative bi-effects on health as well as taste. A new Norwegian product makes it possible to have the positive benefits from chlorine treatment, at the same time avoiding its negative sides.

Extracts from Summary & Critique of NIVA. Norwegian Institute for Water Research Report SNO 4465-2001 September 2001

The tests were conducted using 4 types of water: purified water (using reverse osmosis for purification); tap water (from a lake); well water; and spring water. Some of the tests were simulated using high amounts of contaminants.

NIVA observed the following affects when water was tested by Vivatap:

• Vivatap removed free chlorine from tap water that had been treated with low (0.15mg/1) and high (1.15mg/1) of chlorine within 10 minutes. UK tap water may typically contain free chlorine up to (0.5mg/1).
• Vivatap increased the mineral content (potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium chloride) of acidic water (pH 6.63) with a low mineral content (purified water). This effect was observed to a lesser extent when water with a higher, more neutral pH (pH7.82) and higher mineral content (tap water) was treated with Vivatap. A slight decrease in the mercury content (0.0035 to 0.0030ug/1) was observed on treatment with Vivatap. This observation was tested further by artificially increasing the mercury content of tap water to 87.5ug/1 and then treating the resultant solution with Vivatap. The results show that Vivatap reduced the level of mercury by 25% to 65.5ug/1.
• In tests using well water and tap water which had been artificially inoculated with bacterium E.Coli, Vivatap was observed to eliminate E.Coli from tap water completely and reduce the bacterial count in well water by 36% in 10 minutes. Furthermore, the E.Coli population in well water was reduced by 96% after 60 minutes treatment with Vivatap.

Vivatap Analytical Testing Summary of Results 10th May 2004

Five independent laboratories were commissioned to carry out chemical & microbial testing of tap water before and after treatment with Vivatap at six sites across the UK.

The five sites chosen were: Bristol, Essex, Kent, London, (Thames Water) and Wolverhampton.

• Vivatap was observed to remove free chlorine from tap water in 5 minutes of treatment at all sites tested.
• Vivatap does affect the mineral content (calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium) of UK tap water.
• The already low microbial content of UK tap water is maintained over 24 hours in the presence of Vivatap.
• Vivatap was found to slightly increase the pH of tap water on 3 sites (Bristol, Thames Water, Wolverhampton). Which is in accordance with the increase in pH observed above.
• Vivatap was found to slightly increase the conductivity of tap water indicating a slight increase in iron content.
